A Rehearsal Atmosphere

Going Behind the Scenes of She Loves Me

One of the exciting parts of the process of getting a show on its feet is the rehearsal process. This is when you add in the actors and you start to see a show take form.

In this moment we can see Austin Zimmerman (Georg) and Elena Shill (Amalia), rehearsing “Where’s My Shoe”, where during rehearsal this is a moment that can fill the room with laughter, joy, and excitement, all because we are seeing the two leading characters interact with one another outside of their workplace.

Another fun moment in the rehearsal room happens when the cast is rehearsing their Cafe Imperial scene, also known as “A Romantic Atmosphere”. To be in the room when they are rehearsing this scene is truly amazing, we can even see that the ensemble is filled with joy and laughter as they are joining in dance with one another.

Another favorite is how during rehearsal, we will have the model of the set sitting out on one of the tables. It truly does help, when rehearsing as it helps to give an idea of what the set will look like and truly what the end product can turn out to be.

The cast looks on, as the director Geoff Reynolds is giving feedback. It is keen in rehearsal to pay attention and listen to feedback, as it will help to improve the process and get the show closer to being on the stage.

Another part of the rehearsal process that plays an important role is dramaturgy workshops. For this workshop, I had planned to take the cast to the mall to help them recognize and see how customer service plays out in the real world. At this moment, the cast is gathered to have a discussion to share what they have learned and the ways in which they can apply it to the show. That this can play such an important role, as they were in the middle of the rehearsal process, and this was able to help guide character interactions.

Where the cast was able to form many more connections and take what they had learned that day, into rehearsals the following week. Seeing that these moments helped to guide moments that are seen in the previous moments. Another thing that is beautiful to see in the behind the scenes is the amazing cast connections, where you can see the friendships they have formed in the rehearsal room. With that, we hope that you enjoy She Loves Me, and can enjoy the process that this cast has gone on from when they met last winter for their first read through, to now having the show ready to perform.
