What to Know about Great Expectations

Know Before You Go

Great Expectations by Neill Bartlett (an adaptation of the novel by Charles Dickens)

Director: Alexandra Mackenzie Johns

Adaptation: In this stage adaptation of the famous novel, eight talented actors embody dozens of characters, moving the audience skillfully and tenderly through the hopes and disappointments, the dreams and terrors, of young Pip.

Run Time: approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes

Location: Studio Theatre at BYU West Campus

About the show:

The bleakness of young Pip's life is broken only by his visits to the warped, reclusive Miss Havisham and her beautiful niece, Estella. When a mysterious benefactor gives Pip the opportunity to go to the city and become a gentleman, he leaps at the chance to claim his "great expectations." An exceptional ensemble of just eight actors brings Charles Dickens' beloved epic to life in a brilliant adaptation of yearning, regret, and redemption.
