The Long and Short of Improvisation

The Glorious Story Emporium will whet your appetite for local improv!  The following local improv shows are on my bucket list and I hope to see them in the not too distant future:

1. ComedySportz:  https://www.comedysportzutah.com/ Patrick Livingston, director of Glorious Story Emporium is a “player” here. In the words of their website: “Whether you’re going out with your friends, that special someone, ladies night, or stag, our fun interactive atmosphere and good vibes guarantee you’ll have a fantastic evening.”
2. ImprovBroadway:  http://www.improvbroadway.com/classes.html Calee Gardner is an alumnus and you can be one too! At ImprovBroadway you don’t have to just sit back and enjoy only as a member of the audience with the potential for participation. ImprovBroadway offers a series of four sequential classes so you can join them on stage as the next undiscovered star!
3. Laughing Stock:  http://www.laughingstock.us/
Touting twenty years of family-friendly fun in Salt Lake City, or they can bring the party to you!

  1. Besides coming to see The Glorious Story Emporium, what are some of your favorite local improv shows?

Have you seen any of the ones listed above? Which did you enjoy and why? What are some of your top picks? Put your links and ideas in the “Comments Section” at the end of this blog, thanks for sharing!

An Actor's Perspective, Part 2

By Abram Yarbro and Holly Mancuso Microburst Theatre Festival opened last week, and it has been great to have an audience. As Lee Hall explained in an interview, "Whether you are a writer, or an actor, or a stage manager, you are trying to express the complications of life through a shared enterprise. That's what theatre was, always. And live performance shares that with an audience in a specific compact: the play is unfinished unless it has an audience, and they are as important as everyone else."

Remembering the HFAC

Letters, pictures, voice recordings, journals, videos. There are so many ways to remember and communicate our experiences long after we or the people and the places we made the memories with are gone. Jane Austen wrote not only novels and poems, but also many letters and journals. Unfortunately for us, most of her personal writings were burned by her sister Cassandra upon Jane Austen’s death to keep Jane’s personal life private. Additionally, throughout Pride and Prejudice, letters are used as confessions of love, anger, and sadness.

Dancing Through the Ages and Adaptations of Jane Austen

What kind of person are you at a dance? Are you more like Lydia, who loves to dance and be the center of attention? Or are you more like Mr. Darcy, who sticks to the walls and maybe eats a few refreshments. Or are you somewhere in between?
