Build a Boat

Dramaturgy Workshop Day 6

For the final day of our dramaturgy week, we split into our boat groups to create our own boats. With only a limited supply of ducktape, cardboard and plastic tablecloths, the cast was given the task of building a seaworthy vessel (or pool-worthy, in this case.)

Once the boats were completed, the cast portaged their boats over to the pool and prepared to race for fastest time across, driest people across, most people across, and most boat-like. Though some of the boats promptly sank others made it across and we were able to have a discussion about how the boats on the Powell expedition were unfit for the Colorado River, just like how cardboard and ducktape is unfit for a voyage across a pool.

After the boat races, the cast hopped back into the pool to run a river scene in the water.

To wrap up the day, we presented journals and pens as prizes for completing the summer bingo sheet and winning the boat races, as well as commemorative Men on Boat rocks for everyone.
