All the Beautiful Things Study Guide

Exploring the Stories and the Research

For audience members who want to dig a little deeper into All the Beautiful Things, we created a study guide that offers more context for both the play and the process behind it. The guide traces the development of the project from Dr. Jessica Zurcher’s original research on faith crisis and return through workshops, staged readings, and the creation of the final script, while also introducing the form of verbatim theatre. It also offers a brief look at the Abrahamic faith traditions represented in the play, including scriptural passages from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam that speak to God’s love.

Our hope is that the study guide gives audiences another way into the play—whether they are curious about how the piece was made, the research that inspired it, or the religious traditions represented onstage.
