What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

Does running away from Lady Bracknell count as a favorite line?

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

Definitely more of a rule follower…for the most part.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

I would be upper class, but not aristocratic.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

The literature and theater, and the extravagant female clothing. Although I’m perfectly fine without the corsets.

Country or city?

Live in the city with weekends in the country.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

Probably dinner party?

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

I relate to Gwendolen the most.

Why should people come and see our show?

This is a classic piece of theater. Everyone should know this story and we have really lovely cast members. It’s laugh-out-loud hilarious.

Meagan Flinders– Cecily Cardew

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

How do I choose? The one I relate to the most is “I am not punctual myself, I know, but I do like punctuality in others.” I also really like “What horrid clothes you’ve got on. Do go and change them.”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

I am definitely a rule follower.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

I would probably be a lady in waiting–or another position that is somewhere in the middle instead of lower class or lady.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

Having tea time be so frequent and important.

Country or city?

Country. I need some space to roam and breathe and take in the nature.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

Afternoon tea!

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

I relate to Jack/Ernest in the fact that I don’t like taking nonsense from people. I do relate to Cecily, though, because we are both young and enjoy using our imagination and love tea and can sometimes get pretty silly and giddy.

Why should people come and see our show?
This show is witty, fun, hysterical, and completely outlandish!

Bradley Mackay– Dr. Chasuble, D.D. ( Not pictured)

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

“Your guardian has a very emotional nature” but I must say I love Algy’s line when he says “ now that you mention it, I have been very bad in my own small way.”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

Rule follower, unless rule breaking is consensually sanctioned.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

I would be a lower lord, get the best of both worlds.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

 The elevated language.

Country or city?

Country.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

 Afternoon tea.

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

 Gwendolen.

Why should people come and see our show?

Because it’s beautiful and clever and you need to be cultured as my dad might say.

Alana Jeffery– Lady Bracknell (Not pictured)

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

“Never speak disrespectfully of society Algernon, only people who can’t get into it do that”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

Lady Bracknell makes the rules, but Alana generally breaks them.

Because Oscar Wilde is a genius and my cast mates are truly delightful.

Nurturing Seeds and Ourselves

Ever since the beginning of the rehearsal process, director Kris Peterson really wanted the cast to get their hands in the dirt. Like the events of the musical, the earth has a power to connect us to each other, and she recognized that. One way that Charlotte and I thought to do this was to provide a small number of seeds to each cast member and invite them to grow their own plants over the summer. This was also a way to encourage the cast members to stay mentally connected to the show even when they were physically distant from the rehearsal space.

Our Own Secret Garden

The power of healing and growth is a topic not unknown to students at BYU. Educators and learners alike were asked to stretch their capacity to hold both powers in one hand as they were transplanted from their on-campus home in the Harris Fine Arts Center, to the new West Campus building, formerly known as the old Provo High School. The college of fine arts and communication, which includes Theatre, Media, film, Art, and Design departments, had to establish new communities, while major construction projects prevented them from being as close to the rest of campus as they might like to be.
