Meet the Victorians: Part 1

The cast is working hard to make Earnest a real treat for audiences, and I thought it was time for you to meet them. There never is a dull moment in rehearsals, and it is clear that these actors mean business when it comes to comedy. In this post and the next, you will get a glimpse at the personalities of the people behind our beloved Victorians. I asked them a few questions pertaining to the show to see how they connect to it, and they did not disappoint. Enjoy their natural wit and pump yourself up for the hilarity that will soon ensue!

Sean Worsley (Jack Worthing)

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

Hard choice because I feel like Jack’s lines are more “set-up” lines, but if I had to pick one I’d choose, “Gwendolen, it is a terrible thing for a man to find out suddenly that all his life he has been speaking nothing but the truth. Can you forgive me?”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

Rule follower.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

Lower class for sure.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

The fantasizing that would take place of leaving Victorian England.

 Country or city?

Definitely Country.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

Afternoon tea. That way I could get to bed early.

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

Merriman 115% of the time.

Why should people come and see our show?

Because if they’ve dedicated the time to read all of these, they might as well come see the show, too.

Emma Widtfeldt (Gwendolen Fairfax)

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

“I thought so. In fact, I am never wrong.”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

Definitely a rule follower.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

I’d probably be lower class that always dreamed of being a lady.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

I love the architecture, fashion, history, and all the aspects of society.

Country or city?

City.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

Dinner party. I love getting fancy.

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

Gwendolen. I totally relate to the fact that she has a total picture of what she wants and trying to make that dream come true. Exactly how she pictures it.

Why should people come and see our show?

This show is delightful! It’s funny and has great drama. It also has a lot more things to learn than one would think! COME!

Spencer Hunsicker (Algernon Moncreiff)

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

“Well, I can’t eat muffins in an agitated manner. The butter would probably get on my cuffs.”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

I, unlike Algernon, am definitely a rule follower.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

Lower class for sure. I’m nowhere near cool enough to be upper class. I have no money and even less tact.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

Probably the fashion. I think.

Country or city?

City.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

Dinner party.

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

Dr. Chasuble.

Why should people come and see our show?

Because it is delightful! The wit and charm is absolute perfection!

Stephen Moore (Lane/Merriman)

What is your favorite line from your character in the play?

My favorite line from the show is probably when Lane says “I believe it is a very pleasant state. I have had very little experience of it myself up to the present. I have only been
married once. That was in consequence of a misunderstanding between myself and a young person.”

Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower?

I would say I am more of a rule breaker.

If you lived in the Victorian Era, what type of person do you think you would be?

If I lived in Victorian England I would probably be lower class.

What aspect of Victorian England would you enjoy the most?

I think I would enjoy the emphasis on language and meaning of things the most if I lived in Victorian England.

Country or city?

City. Always the city.

Afternoon tea or a dinner party?

Afternoon tea; I don’t like more formal occasions.

Which character from the show do you relate to the most?

I think I relate to Lane the most oddly enough. I think he enjoys Algernon’s antics but never really gets involved. I think I am similar.

Why should people come and see our show?

People should come see the show because it is a great time. It is hilarious and has a talented cast and crew behind it ready to entertain.

Finding Deadrock: Dramaturgy Boot Camp Part 2

November 05, 2024 07:13 PM
Crazy for You has two main settings: the bustle and shine of upper class New York City, and the dusty, dwindling mining town of Deadrock, Nevada. Just an hour south of Provo lies Mammoth, Utah, a ghost town that directly parallels Deadrock. So we loaded the cast into vans and went on a field trip!
